About the band: When it comes to playing loud, hard and fast, few bands have been able to match the sheer ferocity and onstage charisma of WOLFGANG.... In the 1990's, a bunch of dudes with waist-length hair from La Salle, classic rock and thrash metal fans all, decided to form themselves into a band. They started hanging out with friends who had begun to establish themselves as a classic rock-oriented band called Razorback, who dubbed them the Wolfpack, which later evolved into WOLFGANG. After a few months of playing covers, WOLFGANG released their eponymous debut album. Original songs such as "Darkness Fell", "Halik ni Hudas" and "Natutulog Kong Mundo", whose brooding lyrics were mostly penned by frontman Artadi and propelled by machine-gun riffs by Legarda, became instant mosh pit classics. The band also walked off with most of the major music awards of the day. The WOLFGANG cult grew exponentially when they were snapped up by a major label. Their second album "Semenelin" was released internationally in both the United States and Japan, their label believing that WOLFGANG was the Filipino band most likely to break overseas. Their succeeding releases "Wurm" and "Serve in Silence" cemented their fanbase. They continued to reap critical praise and music awards with each release. They released a 'valedictory', the double CD "Black Mantra", with nearly all the members leaving for abroad soon after. Strangely enough, it was as if they never left. Thanks largely to the internet, they managed to stay in touch with their fanbase. Their 2007 reunion gig with Razorback proved to be a watershed, demonstrating that WOLFGANG's audience is still here, impetus enough for the release of their sixth studio album, after a 6-year hiatus, entitled "Villains." -- ERIC CARUNCHO, SUNDAY INQUIRER MAGAZINE December 7, 2008
